Industrial design is the combination of lines, colors, and ornamental plastic shapes that can be applied to a product, resulting in a visually new and original external configuration suitable for industrial manufacture.

Duration of Registration
The industrial design registration is valid for up to 25 years from the date of filing. The minimum protection period is 10 years, which can be extended for three consecutive periods of five years each. The extension request must be made in the last year of the granted registration term.
Filing Process
To register your industrial design with the INPI, you must submit the application containing the request, descriptive report, claims, and drawings or photographs of the object. Additionally, the payment receipt for the corresponding fee must be included, and the name or qualification of the author (individual) must be provided.
Preliminary Examination
Before accepting the filing, INPI conducts a preliminary examination to check if the application complies with the established rules. If requirements are identified, they must be met within a period of up to 5 days from the notification.
